PUMA’s Day of the Dead Basket Classics

I have good if not great friends in my inner circle. Quality Tom, who I refer to as one of the most fashion forward brothers that I know in the city brought these beauties to my attention. First, I’m very fascinated by the Mexican holiday known as Day of the Dead (check out the opening scene of James Bond’s SPECTRE) so these kicks are up my alley. Here’s a brief rundown on PUMA’s latest creation:

“Drawing inspiration from the iconic skull figures known as Calacas, the pack symbolizes a colorful, reunion of the living and the dead in contrast to a sombre day of mourning. Observed in Mexico and around the world, ‘El Día de Los Muertos’ is renowned for its unique celebration and joyful atmosphere. The two day event invites the souls of the departed back to reunite with their loved ones in a joyful celebration of their life. Traditions include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using calaveras, aztec marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts” via KicksonFire

I love the style of PUMA’s Basket Classics and always have. I have a trusty red suede pair set aside whenever I’m in the mood to really step it out. The Dead of the Dead basket classics are made with jacquard material with vivid flowers and skulls designs adorning the special edition sneaker. Check PUMA for the release on October 19th! Just in time for Halloween
